Translation Policies in the People's Republic of China: The Case of White Papers

Through conceptual translation analysis, I examined the Chinese and English versions of an edition of the White Papers of the People's Republic of China. The study investigates how concepts rooted in the Chinese philosophical tradition—which were identified in the study of contemporary Chinese political philosophy and historically contextualized—are rendered in the English translation. My focus was on the processes of deconceptualization and transformation that occur during translation, as well as their political implications.
